A unique artwork by Giles Newman, the ‘Cernunnos’ Stag Spoon was inspired by Celtic lore and legend in which Cernunnos is the King of all forest creatures and is most commonly depicted in human form with the antlers of a Stag. Giles’ interpretation shows him as a Stag, rooted in the forest and growing from the earth (the bowl), his hind legs as trees gradually evolving into his body. The Torc around his neck demonstrates his power and authority within his realm.
Carved entirely by hand from a piece of English Lime wood using only an axe and two knives, this piece represents some of Giles’ finest work to date with his signature style; bringing together naturalistic, figurative forms with elegant, organic design.
Declared by Time Inc., on their website FoodandWine.com, as “The World’s Most Beautiful Spoons”, Giles creates just a handful of pieces each year. Characterised by their intricate details, naturalistic flow and depth, Giles’ spoon carvings have become highly sought after with collectors and art lovers around the world.
